Healing from Infertility and Miscarriages
Experiencing infertility or a miscarriage can be very painful, confusing, and potentially traumatic. People can experience so many different emotions at once. Often, people in a relationship react differently to the infertility or miscarriage, which can create stress in the relationship and add to the confusion and pain.
Negative or irrational beliefs can also get created or reinforced during infertility or a miscarriage. Of course, these negative thoughts are not true even if they seem very true in the moment. By negative or irrational beliefs, I mean critical inner thoughts such as being at fault, being punished for a past event, being flawed, not being a full woman, or believing that you will never feel better. People can work through these beliefs.
It's also common and normal to feel jealous or angry when you hear of others getting pregnant or having babies.
Therapy can help people work through their thoughts and emotions.
EMDR therapy can help people resolve trauma around infertility and miscarriages.
Mindfulness skills can help people feel more grounded.
Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people change any unwanted thoughts.
It's also helpful to just have a chance to talk about all your feelings, thoughts, and experiences.
Whether or not you try therapy, I'd encourage you to find supportive people who can listen and be there with you.
