Healing from Trauma

Trauma can affect people in so many ways. Studies show that trauma even affects our brain structure. Thankfully, our brains are very capable of healing and growing throughout our lives.

There are many approaches to healing from trauma. The following books focus on healing from trauma and other difficulties:

Getting Past Your Past by Francine Shapiro describes using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to heal from trauma and other past difficulties. Her book also describes several self-help strategies that people can use to feel calmer and begin to heal from trauma. It is written in a gentle, compassionate, hopeful manner.

Healing Trauma by Peter Levine describes a different way of healing from trauma. He uses a somatic approach to healing. His book comes with a CD with various healing exercises.

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk describes how trauma affects us and what we can do to heal.

Sometimes, people get discouraged or lose hope that they can heal. I'm convinced that everyone can heal. I've seen so many people heal and grow, and I've healed a lot myself. Keep looking for what works for you. There are so many ways to heal and grow.

We all deserve to heal! And the world will be a better place if we all heal.
